We are simply the residents of Binsey, from the oldest, Peter, who has been here since 1950, to the most recent, born last year.
We started meetings to organise a village fete in 2008, to support repairs for the church, and the fete is our main focus as a groups – as individuals we like to help each other. Last year we got round to setting up a bank account – but no formal constitution, or elections to a committee, or concerns about standing orders and procedural motions when we meet. We also now support a range of organisations with money raised from our fete – the church still, but also the local school in West Oxford our kids attend, and the Oxford Food Bank.
We have also welcomed local councillors to our meetings, and representatives of Christ Church, the Oxford college which owns most of the village, but we do not have any political affiliations.
